Modelling the tropospheric chemical composition over several decades necessitated the availability of gridded emission data files for a number of compounds. In work package 1 of the RETRO project, new emission data files were generated that describe emissions from anthropogenic activities and from wildland fires.

All emission data from the RETRO project are available on the RETRO ftp server in the directory ftp://ftp.retro.enes.org/pub/emissions. You can download the emissions as "sectorized" files with individual variables per emission sector or as "aggregated" files where all sectors are combined in one variable. All files are in netcdf format and represent version 2 of the emissions data (for details see the project reports).
When you use the RETRO emissions in your work, please don't forget to add an acknowledgement in your publications and conference contributions. We would be very happy to learn about your applications of the data. Please inform us also when you discover inconsistencies or bugs. As the project is finished we will probably not be able to fix these, but we will make an effort to at least document the errors. The known problems until June 2007 are listed in the report D1-6.
To access the data you can either access the ftp server directly or use the emissions browser.
